Watch Cal’s Story
Callum started smoking when he was a student, during a time he was meeting new people and building a sense of community in a new place. Over time, as life and work became more demanding, smoking became a way to take time out for himself. However, he soon realised his health and wellbeing were negatively impacted by smoking and he found himself stuck in a cycle.
“I was smoking and working in a job that I didn’t like. I thought I was trapped. But then I took a small step to get out of it when I decided to stop smoking.”
Although it took around 4 years for him to quit, he found that using low-strength liquids and a variety of quit tools helped him cut down over time.
Instead of spending mental energy thinking about when he will smoke next, Callum can think more clearly and has more energy to channel into things that he enjoys doing in his spare time. Even though he has a busy schedule, his free time is spent drumming, reading, watching movies, playing video games and videography.
“If anything got in the way of that time I allocated in my schedule to smoke, it would make me more stressed, it would make me angry and oftentimes livid.”
Looking back, Callum acknowledges that his biggest regret is starting smoking. However, his greatest achievement was stopping smoking because the sense of resilience it has given him has encouraged him to take on challenges and reach his potential each and every day.
